Blog Post: Coaching Meets Corporate Wellness
posted Monday, October 13, 2008 11:50 AM
Recently, there has been an "alliance" between Business Coaching and Corporate Wellness programs. Let's look at 3 ways these two powerful methods can improve the workplace, especially with the Millennial worker.
1) Increases Productivity - The bottom line, ROI. Coaching is individual leadership training based on the business objectives and expectations of management towards the employee. Wellness helps you feel better, which makes you perform better. Together they develop and train the employee to be more efficient at work. Increasing efficiency saves time. 2) Decreases Health Care Costs - Part of performing well is based on your quality of health. Coaching prepares your mindset for work. Coaching is a proactive approach towards improving self-confidence and becoming "mentally fit." Wellness hits on multiple levels: nutrition, stress, exercise, etc. Wellness is also being proactive, prevention before treatment. Together they prepare the mind and body for the daily tasks ahead (not to mention cutting down on sick days and lowering your insurance premiums!) Improving physical and mental health saves money. 3) Improves Company Image - Targeting the Millennial worker, they live in a "viral market." Word travels faster than the speed of light. Coaching promotes an attitude and perspective shift in mindset, empowering the employee to look at what he/she can change and NOT blame others for their circumstances. Wellness helps company morale because the employee views additional services as "perks" or benefits. Together these two services cause "peer marketing." There is no better commercial for your company than a personal referral. The goal here is to be seen as the Company of Choice. Look around at companies like Google, Yahoo and Facebook. They have taken these concepts and capitalized on them. Having your employees market for you saves time, money and energy! Coaching and Corporate Wellness are the ideal fit for the company who sees their workers at their biggest asset. Hiring outside experts can be more expensive than searching internally for resources, but an objective voice from the outside is usually more effective in achieving results because that is their specialty.
