posted Thursday, October 23, 2008 2:24 PM
The Governor's Conference On Women happens every year in October and every year since First Lady Maria Shriver took over five years ago, the event has gotten bigger and better. This year's line of speakers were incredible, to give you an idea, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger sat down with Billionaire financier Warren Buffet to talk about the state of the economy, jobs, politics and shared some personal antidotes that's shaped each of their roads to success. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice sat down with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Gloria Steinem recanted the early days of feminism and her role in women's rights including demanding equal pay in the workplace, Billy Jean King talked about famous match against Bobby Riggs and how that forever changed the playing field for women- not only in competitive sports but in every arena. Maria Shriver gave the most personal and powerful speech about facing your fears and overcoming challenges and finally the night ended with rock star, Bono, of U2, giving the most incredible speech inspiring all of us to join the fight against needless death in other regions of the world. He encouraged the group of 14 thousand women to join his movement www.red.org and ONE. It was truly a day of inspiration, education, connection and FUN!
The largest women's conference in the world, the event sells out every year - this year it sold out in 3 hours! If you missed it however, you can see some of the speeches and break-out sessions at www.californiawomen.org.
