Preparing For the Opportunity With the combination of President Obama's call for change and the continuing economic downturn, there is a tremendous amount of uncertainty and anxiety right now. How does this affect YOU? Well, let's focus on your career. Most likely you will experience change in the form of a loss, challenge or new opportunity very soon. Here are 3 steps to make sure you are best prepared for the change ahead.

You have to be knowledgeable in the industry you want to move into. Don't depend on others to "teach" you. Two resources that have helped me are: reading books and researching the internet. Both are cheap and effective. While you wait for the right opportunity, use the "down time" to sharpen and learn new skills so you are ready to step up to the challenge ahead. Remember, learning is your responsibility to initiate. 2) Aim - What's your target? A better question may be "Who's your target?" Find someone in your industry that holds a position you desire to obtain one day. Ask that person to mentor you. Learn what mistakes they made. Listen to their stories of success. Take their advice. Act like a student and soak up as much information as you can from someone who has experience from where you want to go. 3) Fire - Act now with a sense of urgency. Take what you've learned and start setting some goals. Don't be overly concerned about making mistakes. Take risks, then learn from your failures. You'll never be 100% ready for any opportunity, it's what you do with the moment that matters. If you take a chance and fail, that's better than not trying. No one wants to live with regrets. It's about effort. View the "Need a Career?" Video @ http://projectleading.blogspot.com/
