Blog Post: Lessons from a Rabbit

Business Habits from a Rabbit
My wife and I have a rabbit at home who has quite a personality. Lately, I've noticed some of his behaviors that can be applied to business. Who knew my pet could model successful business habits?!

What I learned from my Rabbit

1) Be Optimistic. Every morning when I get up and head towards the kitchen, our rabbit sees me and runs back and forth in his cage with excitement. He believes that my sole purpose in life is to feed him. Sometimes I do feed him first, but other times I get my breakfast and sit down to eat it. Regardless of what I did the day before, he has the optimism to believe that I will feed him. I wish I woke up each morning with the same enthusiasm and hunger to start the day.

2) Stay Focused. Our rabbit loves to eat. He has one goal in life: food. He treats each meal like it's his last. Even after finishing his meal, he hunts around for food relentlessly.  His laser-like focus towards food is constant. In your career, what is your ultimate goal? Especially during this economy, we have to stay focused on our goal and not let negative circumstances waver us. Eventually the recession will end, and when it does, those who kept their eyes on the prize will be in position to thrive.

3) Don't Take it Personal. Sometimes my wife and I have to discipline our rabbit because he does something bad. Even after we put him back in his cage, he forgets 5 seconds later and tries to get our attention again. He holds no grudges. This is a great attitude to have for business relationships also. The next time you are rejected or told "No", don't take it personal. Look at what you can learn from it and move on.

We can learn a lot from my rabbit. His optimism, determination and "don't take it personal" attitude are great traits to have as a successful business person.
