This position will be in the Community Investment group within Southern California Edison‚s (SCE) External Affairs Business Unit. The successful candidate will support the development and implementation of integrated, strategic media relations and communications plans in support of corporate philanthropic initiatives.
Skills / Requirements
Typical responsibilities will include:
* Developing comprehensive and targeted communications plans and strategies, and implementing these plans using a wide variety of communications tactics.
* Researching and developing a variety of persuasive communications products and services, including news releases, media kits, standby statements, position papers, fact sheets, talking points, op-ed articles, advertising and brochure copy, presentations, audio-visual projects and web-based communications.
* Monitoring and maintaining the Company‚s philanthropic web content, including updating the content of the Company‚s philanthropic web page and social media sites to garner support and interest in philanthropic projects and programs, and creating video content for streaming online.
* Developing the Company‚s annual Corporate Social Responsibility report, including researching and applying for rewards and recognition from national corporate responsibility organizations.
* Managing communications involving confidential, sensitive, and controversial issues, as well as interpreting and simplifying technical and regulatory information and data.
* Representing the company with print and electronic media, including pitching news stories, answering media queries, and coordinating media interviews and editorial board meetings.
* Working effectively with all levels of management, including company executives and senior managers, as well as establishing relationships with key external contacts, such as community based executives (e.g., executives in non-profit organizations), journalists, editors, news directors, public relations and advertising agency representatives, vendors and suppliers.
* Ensuring alignment of communications initiatives with business unit goals and overall strategy, including consistency in tone, message and approach.
* Maintaining a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
* Performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Basic Qualification:
* Must have three or more years of professional communications experience in a corporate or non-profit communications setting, advertising or public relations agency, or professional news organization setting.
* Must have experience developing comprehensive and targeted communications plans and strategies that reach diverse communities.
Job Requirements:
* Bachelor‚s degree in Journalism, Communications, Advertising, or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
* Typically possesses three or more years of professional communications experience in corporate or non-profit communications, advertising or public relations agency, or professional news organization setting.
* Demonstrated experience researching and developing a variety of persuasive communications products and services, including news releases, media kits, standby statements, position papers, fact sheets, talking points, op-ed articles, advertising and brochure copy, presentations, audio-visual projects and web-based communications.
* Demonstrated experience representing the company with print and electronic media, including pitching news stories, answering media queries, and/or coordinating media interviews and editorial board meetings.
* Demonstrated experience monitoring and maintaining web content, including updating content of web pages and social media sites, and/or creating video content for streaming online.
* Demonstrated experience developing philanthropic activity reporting for the both internal and external stakeholders.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of management, including company executives and senior managers, and establish relationships with key external contacts, such as community based executives (e.g., executives in non-profit organizations), journalists, editors, news directors, public relations and advertising agency representatives, vendors and suppliers.
* Demonstrated ability to manage communications involving confidential, sensitive, and controversial issues, as well as interpreting and simplifying technical and regulatory information and data.
* Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
* Demonstrated ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
* Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
* Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
* Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
