Rio Tinto Borax Global Borate Supplier of Choice Borax traces its roots to California's Death Valley, where borate deposits were discovered in 1872. The twenty mule teams Borax used to haul ore out of the remote desert live on as a symbol of the company's commitment to innovation. Today, Borax is acknowledged as the world leader in borate technology, research and development. Technical support for customers, product quality, and supply reliability are the pillars of our commercial commitment. We are also committed to ensuring that our practices and products are socially, environmentally and economically sustainable.
Borates by Nature Fundamental to Life As one of the 109 elements that make up the planet, it's not surprising that boron is everywhere - in soil and water, plants and animals - in trace amounts. Although scientists refer to levels of "boron," it is important to note that the element boron does not exist by itself in nature. Rather, boron combines with oxygen and other elements to form boric acid, or inorganic salts called borates.
Despite the millions of tons of industrial borates mined, processed and distributed around the world every year, far larger quantities of boron are transferred around the planet by way of natural forces. Rain, volcanic activity, condensation and other atmospheric activities redistribute at least twice as much boron as all commercial practices combined. Employment at Borax Borax is a company distinguished by its considerable resources -- both the human resources that keep our business running, and the natural resources that form the basis of our business. Protecting the safety and health of employees; enhancing their potential through targeted training, development and communications programs; and, securing a world-class workforce through competitive pay, benefits and work practices are critical to our success. Thank you for your interest in employment opportunities at Borax. Borax is a member of the Rio Tinto group. Contact Us
