American Family Life Insurance Company was founded on November 17, 1955 by three brothers, John, Paul and Bill Amos. In its first year of operations, Aflac had 6,426 policyholders and $388,000 in assets.

Who would have thought 50 years ago, that the small, one-room operation in downtown Columbus, Georgia, would one day be a thriving Fortune 500 international insurance company listed on the New York Stock Exchange? Today, Aflac has over 56 billion dollars in assets and insures more than 40 million people worldwide.

Aflac contributes 100% of the individual employee premium for the individual basic Cancer plan and 50% for the individual basic Hospital Intensive Care; Hospital Confinement Indemnity; and Accidental-Death, -Dismemberment, and Injury policies. The Cancer; Accidental-Death, -Dismemberment, and Injury; and Hospital Confinement Indemnity policies provide an annual Wellness Benefit.

Aflac offers employees a 401(k) plan, with 50% matching up to 6% of their salaries (subject to IRS limitations), an employee stock purchase program, and other financial incentives. There is also the potential for year-end profit-sharing bonuses for all employees, and rewards for tenure and superior performance.
