One of 10 Salvation Army Divisions in the Western part of the United States, the Southern California Division spreads across Los Angeles County, north to San Luis Obispo, south to Orange County, and east to San Bernardino County. It is comprised of 36 Corps Community Centers or Centers for Worship & Service, along with Senior Residences, Adult Rehabilitation Centers, and other Social Service facilities.
Several outstanding social service programs are located in the Los Angeles area, including: Alegria, a residential facility housing low-income families affected by HIV/AIDS; The Salvation Army Los Angeles Day Care Center, which is one of the oldest day care facilities in the area; Bell Shelter, one of the largest homeless care facilities in the nation; and The Salvation Army Way In Youth Shelter. Located in Hollywood, the center provides refuge for many of the 8,000 homeless youth who sleep on the streets of Los Angeles each night. In the course of a year, The Salvation Army in Southern California serves more than two million people with programs that include food and shelter for the hungry and homeless, substance abuse rehabilitation, child and adult day care, summer camps, educational and athletic programs for at-risk youth, job training and referrals, medical care and more.
