The right supplies, delivered at the right time, can ensure the safety of Army troops in the field. Maintaining and distributing the Army's large inventory of medicines, spare parts and other supplies is an incredibly important job. The Medical Logistics Specialist is an integral member of the Army's supply and warehousing specialist team. The Medical Logistics Specialist is primarily responsible for receiving, storing, recording and issuing Army medical supplies. Some of your duties as a Medical Logistics Specialist may include: * Perform inventory and financial management procedures, including ordering, receiving and storing supplies * Locate and catalog stock * Perform or supervise inventory management, storage and preservation * Perform quality control, property management and repair parts management * Segregate and account medical supplies and equipment * Select the correct stock for issue * Load, unload and move stock using equipment such as forklifts and hand trucks * Keep records on incoming and outgoing stock Skills / Requirements
Job training for a Medical Logistics Specialist requires nine weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and six weeks of Advanced Individual Training, including practice in handling and storing stock. Some of the skills you'll learn are: * Stock control and accounting procedures * Procedures for shipping, receiving, storing and issuing stock * Procedures for handling medical and food supplies Helpful attributes include: * An interest in mathematics, bookkeeping, accounting, business administration and typing * An ability to keep accurate records * A preference for physical work * An interest in operating forklifts and other warehouse equipment Advanced level Medical Logistics Specialist provides guidance, supervises and trains other Soldiers within the same discipline. As an advanced level Medical Logistics Specialist, you may be involved in: * Perform receipt, packing and shipping, care, inspection, quality control, segregation, inventory control, requisitioning, storage, preservation, issue, salvage, destruction, repair parts management and * distribution, supply management, property management and accounting of medical supplies and equipment The skills you'll learn as a Medical Logistics Specialist will help prepare you for a future as a stock control clerk, parts clerk or storekeeper with civilian factories, repair shops, department stores and government warehouses and stockrooms. * Patient Administration Specialist (68G) Learn more about the relationship between military training and civilian certification requirements.
