DESCRIPTION:
This is a non-sworn trainee position in which incumbents do not gain regular status. Promotion to School Resource Officer is contingent upon successful completion of the basic academy and review by the Chief of Police. During training, incumbents do not have police powers but are subject to the rules and regulations of the Fontana Unified School District Police Department and the police academy attended. Incumbent may be assigned non-safety duties in the Police Department during training. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS): Candidates must have the ability to: � Successfully complete the basic police academy which includes classroom and field training. � Accurately observe and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents and places. � Learn to use and properly care for firearms. � Think and act quickly in emergencies, judge situations, and evaluate people accurately. � Learn, understand, interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures. � Prepare clear, accurate and grammatically correct written reports. � Meet the requirements for police officer contained in the California State Government Code. � Understand and carry out oral and written directions. � Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. � Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of employment. � Perform any other tasks or functions deemed necessary to the daily operations of the employer. QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: � Equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade. Licenses/Certificates Required: � Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver's License. Insurability by District Liability Insurance Carrier may be required. May be required to provide own transportation to sites during workday. Desirable Qualification: Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish. Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned performance responsibilities, which are essential functions of this job description, are the following essential physical requirements: ï€ Mobility sufficient for rapid coverage of total campus ï€ Ability to see, hear, and speak for purposes of observation of student behavior, giving direction, and enforcing rules. ï€ Ability to stand for extended periods of time. ï€ Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, run, and crawl. ï€ Ability to pull or drag up to 165 pounds. Eligibility Requirements - Written examination - Physical agility test - Pre-employment interview - Medical examination/drug screening - Polygraph examination - Psychiatric evaluation - Comprehensive background investigation - Citizen or permanent resident alien who is eligible, and has applied for citizenship Skills / Requirements
Special Requirements:
Candidates must also satisfy the following: Nationality: Must be a United States Citizen Age: Must be at least 21 years of age upon completion of the basic police academy Medical Standards: Must meet the standards recommended by the Commission of Peace Officer Standards and Training.
