Sample Resumes
Resume Type: Functional
Functional resumes begin with qualifications summary and is an overview of your qualifications (only the relevant ones to the position you are applying to). The second section can be called many things from "Professional Qualifications" to "Experience Highlights". This section features highlighted responsibilities and achievements, grouped by two to three types of business skills, traits, or types of positions. The reason for this type of format is to highlight your key skills and traits over your specific work background. Work history on this type of resume is a basic list of company name, job title, and work dates. As in other types of resumes, this format is completed with education - and any additional, relevant details. This format can be great for a career changer or someone who really needs help tying together their key accomplishments in a way that best supports their candidacy for a particular job. One problematic area for recruiters reading this type of resume is it can be hard to tell what precisely a person did at each particular company (the format is partially to blame for this, and the other part of the blame lies in unclear, creative or loosely used job titles).
