Purpose     

Ensure all vehicles are secured on the rail cars; close and seal railcar doors

Essential Duties    

  • Check to make sure all vehicles are properly loaded and spaced, and secured in the rail cars (Bi-Level and Tri-Level); report any problems to the Rail Supervisor
  • Inspect for proper deck lid height in rail cars
  • Close and lock all rail car doors according to GM standards
  • Place seal locks on all rail couplers
  • Collect travelers from each rail load
  • Seal all rail cars entering the yard
  • Perform audit of rail car decks, inspecting for potential repairs to be made and report findings to Rail Supervisor and Rail Dispatcher
  • Complete weekly rail audit reports to be available for inspection by Supervisors and Regional Quality and Safety Manager on request
  • Empty all garbage containers located outside the main office building, the gate entrances, and gas pumps on a weekly basis
  • Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned

Other Duties/Requirements

  • Perform rail billing on an as needed basis
  • Scan vehicles in rail zones
  • Search for “on-hold” or “lost” units as requested by the Rail and Road supervisors
  • Participate in the annual AAR training via the AWC safety share-point
  • Exhibit a behaviour and conduct that maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that the incumbent gets along with customers, vendors, co-workers, and management
  • Maintain good and regular attendance
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a variety of situations
  • Present a positive demeanor

Working Conditions

  • The incumbent works primarily outside and is exposed to all types of weather conditions year-round
  • The incumbent must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time; lift and carry heavy materials averaging 75 lbs; close railcar doors
  • Other physical activities include climbing and descending of railcar ladders; stooping; kneeling; some crouching while in the railcars

  • Exposure to vehicle exhaust while working in rail cars

Minimum Requirements

  • Secondary school diploma
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Effective attention to detail
  • Good observational skills
  • Good physical condition to handle walking, standing, climbing, lifting and carrying of heavy materials up to 75 lbs
  • WHMIS
  • Valid Driver’s License
