  • Overview

    The role of the Technical Service Advisor is to constantly strive to improve the quality of our customers’ fresh produce in their packing houses. This can be accomplished by ensuring the best possible performance of JBT’s cleaners, fungicides, and coating products. The Technical Service Advisor also provides input to resolve technical issues on the post harvest handling of Fresh Fruit/Vegetables.

    This position works in the Southern California area, in and around Los Angeles. When not in the field, this position will report to our JBT office located in Riverside, California.

    Responsibilities

    • Make routine visits to customer facilities to check and maintain JBT’s washing and application systems, and make recommendations that maintain or improve the quality of JBT’s protective coatings or processes.
    • Respond to unplanned events / solve customer technical problems.
    • Learn procedures and importance of calibration of chemical treatments and measurement of applications.
    • Evaluate chemical concentrations in recirculated drench systems and in aqueous/wax spray systems.
    • Monitor wax performance for shine consistency throughout the season.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    Mandatory: BS or BA in Agriculture, Biology, Horticulture or related scientific field.

    Preferred: Course work in postharvest physiology and pathology, citrus science or postharvest technology.

    Skills and Experience:

    Mandatory: Basic command of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Outlook

    Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    Must hold a CA Pest Control Advisor’s license at time of employment or within 12 months of employment

    Preferred: Experience handling chemicals & working w/ postharvest chemical application systems.

    Customer service experience,

    Postharvest and/or citrus related work experience

    Travel Requirements:

    Interstate travel will be required. Intrastate or international travel may be required. Must hold valid driver’s license.

    Work Environment and Physical Demands:

    May be required to lift up to 40 lbs. during the course of performing certain job-related tasks. Will be required to work in hot, cold, noisy, and/or potentially hazardous packinghouse environments. Must be able to navigate through packinghouses, climbing ladders, walking up/down stairs.
