Machine Reliability Engineer

The Machine Reliability Engineer is responsible for designing and monitoring the maintenance procedures for all of Niagara’s fixed assets to ensure reliability. This includes working with the plant and their respective maintenance vendors to ensure all maintenance related metrics and projects are maintained and completed.

Detailed Description

  • Develop systems for machine reliability and conduct asset care audits for manufacturing facilities across all Niagara plants.
  • Conduct onsite visits for asset care audits and ensure compliance with OEM recommended maintenance procedures by evaluating plant maintenance practices.
  • Perform audit result analysis and organize audit close out presentations and educate the plant maintenance team on non-conformances observed during audit and
  • Provide recommendations to improve maintenance practices.
  • Implement safety policies, correct lubrication procedures and best PM practices across all plants.
  • Improvise and continuously improve the asset care audit system to enhance process sustainability and ensure its success
  • Develop systems for asset reliability for all manufacturing assets across all Niagara plants.
    • Support with reliability concepts for execution of asset criticality, as part of the Asset Health Assurance Model.
    • Determine the function, capability, functional failure modes, probability of failure, impact severity and acceptable risk for assets to define the right maintenance requirements to eliminate functional failures and their effects.
    •  Establish a systematic PM/PdM review process with support from the Planner to ensure the effectiveness of the existing PM/PdM program.
    • Coordinate PdM efforts on site to measure and secure an upward trend of the Asset Health.
    • Ensure appropriate follow up recommendations and actions from the inspection program of assets.
    • Identify and implement opportunities for improvement of Asset Health to optimize plant uptime.
    • Support the work preparation process to ensure job plans are prepared that explains the correct proactive tasks for effective work execution.
    • Support maintenance tasks aligned with the reliability improvement: improvement tasks, Inventory Management, RCA, RCM, 5Why, 5S, and Reliability Centered Maintenance skills improvement using reliability concepts.
    • Lead, as required, the RCFA and RCM processes within Maintenance organization using cross – functional teams to ensure appropriate changes to the PM/ PdM program or plant modifications are made which improve reliability and reduce avoidable maintenance costs.
    • Participate and take relevant agreed actions for OPEX team meetings to ensure equipment capabilities and help to develop a culture focused on solutions.
    • Update appropriate records to track program or equipment changes.
    • Coach site personnel in the reliability work processes to ensure continued alignment to the Asset Health Assurance model.
    • Propose replacement projects based on asset health and conditions for the respective area of responsibility.
    • Establish cycles of improvement to ensure a sustainable reliability process.
  • Implement preventive maintenance (PM) program for all production lines within Niagara.
  • Liaise with OEM to establish preventive maintenance scripts/tasks for given equipment.
  • Validate and customize maintenance instructions as per actual equipment configuration/format at the facility.
  • Conduct onsite visits to validate the equipment maintenance instructions with plant’s and OEM feedback.
  • Establish strong communication between plants and OEM to accomplish process requirements.
  • Conduct CAV (Line Efficiency Trials) for new production lines
  • Establish KPIs to evaluate equipment performance during new line installation and acceptance trials.
  • Provide plant support during line acceptance trials to identify areas of opportunity for continuous reliable production.
  • Ensure the new lines are delivering desired throughput at design speed and per purchasing contract.
  • Follow up with equipment manufacturers and plant for any opportunities identified during acceptance trials and systematic closure of any open action items.
  • Work on Process Automation development tools and Condition Based Maintenance Projects
    • Partner with IT and Manufacturing Information Systems groups as a part of implementation of projects.
    • Selecting features, building and optimizing automation processes using machine learning and data acquisition techniques
    • Data mining using state-of-the-art methods
    • Extending company’s data with third party sources of information when needed
    • Enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems
    • Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
    • Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results in a clear manner
  • Perform machine availability and OEE analysis to identify issues related to line performance and collaborate with plant and OEMs to trouble shoot these issues for improved line performance.
  • Machine Reliability Engineer is estimated to travel 50-70%

Work Experience/KSA’s

  • Required:
    • 1-2 year(s)  – Experience in direct manufacturing with maintenance and manufacturing planning in a high speed environment

*experience may include a combination of work experience and education

  • Preferred:
    • 2-4 years  –   Experience in Bottling / injection molding industry experience, experience with continuous improvement projects
    • 2-4 years  – Experience in Position  including machine reliability experience   
    • 1-2 year(s)  – Experience in the Food and Beverage Manufacturing Industry or other related field

Preferred Competencies and Skills

  • Basic level knowledge of plastics, PET processing, blow-molding, filling and packaging process. Basic knowledge of PET bottling line equipment such as:
    • Blow Molder
    • Filler
    • Capper
    • Conveyors
    • Labeler
    • Case Packer
    • Palletizer

  • Proficiency in, but not limited to:
  • Microsoft Office Applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, Visio, etc.
  • Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
  • Basic understanding of data acquisition and processing tools and techniques and developing algorithms on common platforms to generate outputs
  • Basic scripting and programming skills
  • Able to translate data into recommendable actions to senior management
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Self-motivated with a proven record of taking initiative
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
  • Detail-oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Able to execute tasks in a very dynamic and ever-changing environment
  • Exercise sound judgment and ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce

Education

  • Minimum Required: 
    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or other related fields or equivalent experience
  • Preferred: 
    • Master's Degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering

Foreign Language

  • Required:            None Required
  • Preferred:           Elementary Proficiency, Spanish
