Systems Survivability Engineer 3 - Concept Integration

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (NGAS) is seeking a System Survivability Engineer 3 for System Survivability to be located in Redondo Beach, California. The qualified applicant will support a diverse portfolio of internally and externally funded research and technology development activities. As part of your assignment, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to determine how survivability technologies can best be integrated into air-based systems within the NGAS portfolio.
The System Survivability Engineer 3 provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult survivability problems. He/she demonstrates complete understanding of theory and technical understanding of survivable airframe technology development and integration.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Utilize 1D, 2D, and 3D computational electromagnetic codes such as method of moments (MoM) and physical optics (PO) to perform component and vehicle level design and analysis and ensure system survivability
• Lead RCS testing and data post-processing using Knowbell or Pioneer to verify survivability vehicle features (testing performed at both indoor and outdoor testing facilities)
• Complete his/her tasks under the general direction, working independently to determine and develop approaches to solutions
• Guide and mentor junior engineers on their technical assignments
The System Survivability Engineer will be a part of an integrated product team (IPT), supporting multi-discipline advanced development programs and technology research and development (R&D).
• Bachelors of Science in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an ABET accredited university with 5 years of proven engineering experience in applied electromagnetics, aircraft survivability, or a survivability related discipline OR 3 years of experience with a Master of Science in STEM discipline OR 0 years of experience with a Doctoral degree in STEM discipline
• Active DoD Secret clearance
• BS/MS/PhD degrees in electrical engineering with upper division or graduate coursework in applied electromagnetic theory; BS/MS degrees in mechanical engineering with coursework in finite element analysis; BS/MS degrees in aerospace engineering with coursework in preliminary aircraft design
• MS degree plus 3 year of relevant work experience; BS degree plus 5 years of relevant work experience
• Experience working on conceptual vehicle design teams and basic understanding of supersonic design requirements as they relate to subsonic and supersonic flight requirements
• Experience supporting proposals for R&D efforts to develop survivable airframe components and technologies
• Experience working with suppliers to develop and produce low observable airframe technologies
• Experience in signature integration, RCS design, analysis, and testing (highly desired)
• Experience with physical optics codes such as Xpatch and the ability to use meshing tools such as CAE, FMS, or Cubit (highly desired)
• Experience with in-house or commercial Method of Moments codes such as SENTRi or HFSS
• Experience working with model fabrication teams and test facilities
• Experience with RCS data processing tools, such as Knowbell or Pioneer (highly desired)
• Computer-aided drafting (CAD) skills using tools such as Catia or NX (a plus)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Active DoD Top Secret level clearance and/or previous SAP/SAR clearance
